Work life balance has become a joke in India. Recently every social media platform has been revolving around the statements passed by Infosys chairman and L&T chairman. As they have mentioned people should work even on Sundays and daily working hours should be increased to 15 hours. They have been stressing out this in society to change. They have mentioned their times in which they have worked hard to reach their dreams and goals. But those ideologies have been kept on this generation people.
Narayana Murty chairman of Infosys has mentioned people should work 70 hours a week. Which means 14 hours a day with 2-week offs. Taking a step ahead L&T chairman S.N. Subramanyan has stated that 90 hours of work should encouraged and without week of on Saturday. Additionally mentioned that he would suggest working on Sundays too. The most controversy he said is how long would partners stare. This was devasting statements as per my opinion.
A real time story which I have heard before:
A cute little family of IT employees. For those couple as a symbol of love they had a girl child. There was a beautiful family for the people who were seeing. Because both spouses are earning, and the child is so happy with the money all things. A car and lavish life which we all see from outside of the house. But when it comes to the inside of the house there is a different story.
As the parents both ran on money. They dedicated to work and deadline provided at the work. But the child who was born was taken care of by some workers. After returning from the office also they used to be on work. Less family time compared with others.
They have provided their 3-year-old child with gadgets, so he will not disturb them during their work. But this had made a huge blunder in his life. He was at an age where he needed to learn new words and work. The more screen time and less talking time made him silent. Which made the child was not able to talk.
This made a huge tense in parents, after years of therapy he was able to talk and communicate properly as per his age children. This will haunt him for ever like parents were able to show their love to me.
Another case:
Same a good IT family. But here the father was the most loving one towards the child. But the mother of the child was quite busy with work as he was taking care of the child. It does not mean the mother has not taken care of her. But important care and small things not done by the child’s mother.
One day she got a phone call from the children’s school. The principal insisted mother to come over as fast as possible. Mother went out them to get the problem. During the cultural hour students were ordered to engage in drawing something which is in their mind.
This child has drawn beautiful family photo of them in outside a house. All the students’ teachers caught this photo. Because the drawing does not have a mother in it. The teacher shocked and asked the student regarding mother’s drawing. She simply in normal manner stated that mother will be always busy with her laptop. Only Dad will be with me.
In the two situations the days can’t reverted. The memories of when the children were small are precious. Those must be seen and reserved in our minds forever. But due to gadgets and work we are neglecting them. But these things should not be done.
Working like robots and earning lots and lots of money cannot bring their children childhood and memories. Companies must set work life balance. To ensure best family outcomes.
But statements from these companies’ chairman are the most devasting thing. But at the end of the day, it is just their opinion. Children who grown up like that will not have any kind of love and affection towards their parents. Parents and children should prioritize family first and everything is next.
