While going straight walker can also cross the roads. One of the most important things is to control the timing of lights. Basically the green light should be on until the traffic must be cleared by the red light. Yellow light time should be until a driver is able to stop it easily.
Yellow should be as per the speed limit of the location, while one light is yellow the other should be red.
Current technology:
Nowadays we are using actuated signals which are able to receive inputs from the environment. They use input used to make decisions regarding light time.
This type of signal depends on traffic detection systems like cameras, radars and sensors. These sensors show the the presence of cars in traffic signals. These sensors are connected to pre-programmed machines, the program has duration of signals as per inputs.
As we see sometimes at traffic signals a lane has less traffic than other lanes. Using this sensors system we can handle this situation. And also manual controls are also present to control signals manually.
Advanced traffic signals:
Sometimes there will be the following signals one after the other. A vehicle needs to pass two traffic signals at a time. Signals work on their data provided; a vehicle crosses a signal but stops at another signal which creates a huge traffic problem.
Signal organizing is the solution for this, this creates easy flow without waiting time for the people. They cross 2 signals without any problem.
