India in Olympics 2024 no powerful effect on medals

The Olympics is the world’s most prestigious sports event which is held every 4 years with huge expectations. Almost all countries will participate in the Olympics event with their respective athletes. Almost 180 countries with almost 12,000 athletes. All countries take the Olympics as their country’s pride and invest a lot of money for athletes and their training.

While coming to the recent Olympics, most countries and athletes have participated. But why Indian athletes are not capable of bringing medals home? In some of the countries only with few lakhs of the population were able to produce quality athletes but they bagged many gold medals. India the Olympics 2024 hasn’t won any gold medals. This may humiliate the nation as we have the largest number of young people living in the country.

India in Olympics 2024:

Almost 117 Indian athletes have participated in this Olympics event. These athletes are competing in 16 sports as per the medal event count which will be 69 medal events. The following is the list of 16 sports.

Archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, wrestling, table tennis, and tennis are the sports Indian athletes will be competing in the Paris Olympics 2024.

Of these 117 athletes, 110 are direct competitors and the other 7 are alternate athletes. We have got 5 bronze and 1 silver. Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the Javelin throw. And other in hockey, 3 in shooting, 1 in wrestling. The medal holders are Manu Bhaker, Swapnil Kusale, Sarabjot Singh from shooting, Aman Sherawat from wrestling, and our Indian hockey team.

We all know India is a developing country with a huge population and a huge youngster count of 140 crores. But the athletes who have represented India in the Olympics are just 110, which needs to undergo a huge investigation by governments. To make this a better one.

Why India is not able to win in the Olympics 2024:

Most of the people seeing the society and children around us get into the thought that, all of the people are only just interested in cricket which is leading to lag in other sports and athletes. But this assumption is wrong, cricket may be one of the reasons for the impact on other sports. But the craze of cricket is just a minor among all other reasons.

India is ranked almost 57th in this Paris Summer Olympics. A country with this type of huge population is not able to attain their 2-digit medals in the table. India is only able to participate in 16 sports as I have mentioned above. But remaining games India was not able to qualify.

Most of the gold-winning countries have only 10% of the population that we have. Not only gold medals their participation in athletes is higher than ours. For example, Ireland country has a population of 52 lakhs but their athletes in every year Olympics is 133.

Our situation with others:

When compared to our population we can generate more athletes than them. But India is lagging here. Australia with a 2 Crores population can send their well-trained 406 athletes to the Olympics we need to be ashamed of the count.

The Olympics has 32 sports and 329 events, India with 140 crores population can participate only in 16 sports and 69 events.

China, America, and other countries that win the highest medals are participating in more events with quality athletes so they can gain more medals compared with us.

When we compared the athletes count with our population we ended up with only 1 person from every 1.2 crores population. Who would say what other 1.1999 crores are not worth for athletes? Some of them may be good at studies and other things. But some more may be good sports, just they need is proper training and guidance. Their hidden talent needs to identified.

Why only India:

Most Indians don’t accept sports as a career. Parents only accept sports as an extra activity in their free time. This is the main reason for the lag in sports. Our Indian culture and atmosphere are not ready to support sports. I think many of the people have faced a situation in their school days. Most of the subject teachers will be trying to take every possible sports period. Which shows their uninterested and cheap behavior towards the sports.

School is the best place where the talents of the students get out. Most of the schools in metropolitan cities don’t have a playground and forget about a PT sir who is proficient in games. This is the education system.

Most people attracted to IITs and IIMs. But we need to see the stats. As most people say only 1 lakhs get success in sports others will fail. Same here in it’s, only one among some thousands will be able to crack the exam. But why does every student need to study it from the 6th or 7th class?

Other countries have the regulation that every student must be involved in any of the extra circular activities. There is no consideration for any student. All need to engage in any sports and activities.

Most of the countries give the option to select their career and also courses are huge in the sports and music etc. But in India, anyone doesn’t know that there will be courses for sports to study and courses for music to study.

See down the IT firms, in their free time when the team gathering happens how many beautiful singers would come out, and dancers.

Poor budget for better Olympics:

Lack of money means that they have money but not interested in spending on sports development. The grassroots sports allocation budget was only 900Cr from the sports minister. Most of the states just spend their money some thousands of crores in a few months for just freebies.

The allocated 900 Crores will be just sufficient for the officers’ salaries, coaches’ salaries, PT salaries, and some of the equipment if possible. But students nutrients food and equip

Indian sports minister gets the only budget of 3 thousand crores approx. But when we look into the China sports budget is almost 26 thousand crores.

Most people are rather interested in freebies but they will not check the sports budget. But when the times of Olympics all need to bring medals for our country. There is no minister for sports in India. A combined sectors minister is taking care of sports. When many sectors are combined there will be negligence and funds issues more. India is born for that. For every 100 rupees spent by the government. 10 rupees will wasted by corruption.

We have seen a recent new paper leak scam. Total India was with the students to raise their voices against the scam. People protested until the culprits found. This is only because it is related to study.

How many of you know, there was a 1 lakh+ crore scam? But most people don’t know about it. Media also haven’t shown much interest in the sports scam as people are also not responding to it.

Infrastructure:

Our India is lacking in infrastructure, we all know the list of cricket stadiums in India, but how many of you know the list of hockey stadiums in India? Maybe not more than 40. Some 50 football stadiums as per reports. But most of those are used as cricket stadiums or else athletes training.

Building a stadium is not enough there should be required facilities. Grass needs to be maintained, water, washroom, health. And many other factors need to be considered when a stadium is present. Most of them don’t have lights to practice at night and early morning.

Media effect less on Olympics:

Mostly there is a social media effect that makes the players. If a player slips on a cricket ground there would be trending hashtags circulating on all social media. But how many of you know about the sexual assaults of an MP of the ruling party against wrestlers? Nobody knows Sunil Chetri who stands among the high goals with GOAT’s Messi and Ronaldo. In a match of football which was held a few months ago. How many of you know India lost the match due to the illegal goal of Qatar? I know the answer 1 in 10 or 20 may know about these all things.

Our normal media is also always ready to highlight cricket rather than other games. Because of their TRP reasons.  Mostly mindset of the people is the main reason. Cricket players are brought to lame light by the media. Their luxury lives are well displayed by the media. Which made all people attracted to it. our governments and media combined need to develop other sports popularity.

Tournaments effect:

There is a personal experience with such types of incidents. I am a basketball player in my school days. And I represented my team in some of the events. When the time for selections for state-level basketball has come. My whole team was good but they were new for the tournaments and this kind of process. This less knowledge of events, most of my team’s players were not able to perform at their best in it. With the fear they haven’t helped the team to perform well. This led major loss for the team and no one was able to select for further events.

Same with India, most of the athletes have the skills but n chances to compete in international events which improves their skills and pressure-handling techniques. This is a big disadvantage.

No recognition:

As I have mentioned Sunil Chetri Indian football player in the top 3rd of most goal scores. But most of India doesn’t know him. How many of you wrestlers who represented India other than Vinesh Phogat? I know the answer will be no from many of the people in India. I have seen a video where a YouTuber asks the random people. He displayed pictures of sportspersons ( I mean recent players) and some random Instagram influencers. Most of the people were able to recognize the Instagram influencer. Even the big boss winner has more recognition than a sportsperson in India.

Rather than calling film stars heroes, the next generations need to call the army and athletes who brought pride to our country heroes.

Corruption and politics:

Other than cricket all other sports are managed by the political leaders and government directly. BCCI is a nonpolitical organization for cricket. This is one of the reasons why only the most talented people can be seen in the cricket team.

When coming to other sports, the places on a team or for international selection money, and political support play a crucial role. Most of the political leaders involved in it will be seeking bribes from the players to be selected to represent India. Corruption is eating every sector in India.

BCCI has more money than the government to spend only on cricket. As per reports, BCCI sends 400 crores to every state for cricket. But the government was not able to give this amount combinedly for all the sports to every state.
